Here The Darter is showing off its elegance to a painted stork,
i know i know you are elegant, you don't have to show off.

Audubon.org says these are in the southern US too, and I never heard of them. So strange looking! I like the polka dots on the upper wings. In the fifth photo he's modeling for you. "Here, sir, aren't I gorgeous?" I can't believe you caught him flying in the frame, I can never do that. I wonder if they are called snake birds because the neck looks like a snake? They did such a nice photo op for you, rauf.

Ruth, i have added one more picture at the end, in conversation
with a painted stork, may be exchanging beauty tips, painted storks are real clowns, very funny they are, Its easier with your olympus to get action shots through the eye level view finder but not with the screen. Screen is great for macro. Same shot would be lot crisper with your Olympus. You miss a lot of oppertunities with longer zooms which you can trap so easily with your camera. At 8 MP setting you can easily crop the action area to fit the blog. i have observed that they are not afraid of humans and fly away.
i think they are known as snake bird because of their looks, they take off very elegantly but without preperation, without a warning. where as painted storks, other storks, pelicans make a big noise flap their wings give a press conference tell the world and announce their flight in loud speakers and take off. there is plenty of time to shoot.

This are super cool shots Raufie - love them!
    Beautiful birds.
Did you have lunch with them?

My elusive herons (two) are so shy and I get so nervous I cannot get a decent shot when I manage to get "near enough"

Got somethin' for ya at mischief, come and look

    Biiiig Huuuuuug

Sorry Sangita, actually i don't know the names of most of the birds i see. Sometimes when a forest officer is available i show him the picture on the cameraa screen and ask for the name. Places like Silent valley where i go alone, there is simply no way of knowing. I shot a yellow bird there haven't posted it because i don't know the name. there are many like that.
